Being prepared to make financial decisions, manage money and pursue goals is something that is very important for adults of both genders. We all know that there remains a persistent gender gap in wages, business ownership, and many other categories related to the economy. But did you know that that this gender gap may start in childhood?
A new study finds that starting at a young age, boys are more likely to get an allowance than girls. This is despite the fact that another study concluded girls are doing two more hours worth of chores than boys are, while boys are spending twice as much time playing than girls do. This is concerning, as allowances are an important way children learn how to manage money.
GENaustin’s clubGEN program believes in giving girls the tools they need to succeed in adolescence and beyond. This means part of our goal is to teach girls financial literacy, money management, and planning for their future career. At clubGEN, girls practice starting their own business on lemonade day, meet female role-models during Career Week, and learn the tools to make good decisions and plan for their futures. We believe girls need this kind of encouragement and support. If you agree, consider donating to our current fundraising effort to make sure clubGEN remains free and available to girls throughout central Texas. Donate online today!
