1. Introduction
GENaustin has a set of volunteer policies put into place to protect our clients and maximize the impact we can make, working together. We expect all volunteers to abide by these policies and ask that you contact GENaustin at any point if you have any questions or feedback about your role as a volunteer.
2. Background checks
All GENaustin volunteers who work directly with our clients must pass an online background check. Information on how to complete this process will be made available after your volunteer placement is determined.
3. Confidentiality
GENaustin utilizes a Confidentiality Policy to protect our clients. We do not share any information about our clients with a third party unless:
- A client is a danger to herself;
- A client is a danger to others; or
- A client is a victim of abuse and/or neglect.
This policy is the same as is used by therapists, teachers, counselors, and others in the social service field. In addition, we will withhold the real names of clients in external communications.
4. Transportation
No GENaustin staff or volunteers are authorized to drive middle or high school girls. Agency insurance does not provide coverage for transportation.
5. Media release
The guardians of GENaustin clients are required to sign a release allowing the agency to utilize a girl’s likeness and any information divulged in evaluations to aid in program development, outreach, and fundraising. Last names will not be used to identify minors online or in outreach materials, and every effort will be made to respect the privacy of clients and their families.
Likewise, we may use photos and quotes from volunteers to help promote and publicize GENaustin’s programs.
6. Sexual harassment & other unlawful discrimination
GENaustin will not tolerate sexual harassment and other unlawful forms of discrimination. GENaustin will remove volunteers from placements if a report of harassment is substantiated.
