Internships

Marketing Intern

clubGEN Mentor

Location: Manor and Decker Middle School (Manor ISD), Chisholm Trail and C.D. Fulkes Middle School (Round Rock ISD), and Eanes ISD.

The primary function of this role is safety and on-site supervision of clubGEN participants and facilitators. clubGEN is a weekly, after-school, peer mentoring program that trains high school girls (facilitators) to be peer mentors for middle school girls (participants), engaging them in activities throughout the school year that promote self-esteem, resilience, confidence, and leadership. Additionally, mentors will coach, empower, and support the high school facilitators as they develop valuable teamwork and leadership skills and will be an added support to the peer-led model. Mentors will be influential to the high school girls as they learn to assess their individual values, relationships, and goals in relation to building a strong team of empowered young women.

Entrance Requirements

  1. Ability to volunteer 1.5 hours between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on at least one week day Monday through Thursday.
  2. Access to email for regular updates about programs, time changes, and curriculum activities.
  3. Reliable transportation.
  4. Ability to pass a background check.
  5. Commitment to the goals and philosophies of GENaustin.

Sub-mentor positions also needed. This mentor would be on an "on call" list and would fill in for regularly scheduled mentors who are unable to make it to club. The same application and training process applies.

Fun Activities Coordinator

Location: All Middle Schools in AISD

This volunteer will facilitate fun activities with the clubGEN participants after the middle school students get out of school and before clubGEN begins in an effort to keep the girls engaged and prepare them for club.

Time commitment: Average of one hour per event; During the hours of 3:30 - 4:30 on either Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Ongoing opportunity from September 8 - May 22.

Skills/Experience Needed:
Enthusiasm about working with youth and empowering girls.
Reliable transportation.
Ability to pass a background check.

English to Spanish Translator

Location: Anywhere - May work from home.

This volunteer will need to be able to translate our newsletter, information flyers and other important documents for the parents and students of our Spanish clubGEN after school program.

Entrance Requirements:
Volunteer should have excellent Spanish grammar, and the ability to make the documents flow with ease using vocabulary of Spanish speaking residents of South Texas.

Marketing Intern
Location: GENaustin headquarters at The Ann Richards School

Summary of Position

The Girls Empowerment Network of Austin (GENaustin) seeks a Marketing intern to collaborate with the Development Office. As a fully integrated member of GENaustin, an intern will be given the opportunity to:

  • Write and design fund-raising appeals, publications, brochures and other outreach materials
  • Write success stories
  • Develop content for our website
  • Research
  • Assist with other marketing and development tasks

In addition to the everyday workload, efforts are made towards educating interns about the organization as a whole through meetings, events, and other opportunities.

Entrance Requirements

  • Preferably undergraduate or graduate students with a major related to public relations, marketing or journalism.
  • Excellent research, writing, and oral communications skills.
  • Available to work on a committed weekly schedule with a minimum of 10 hours/week for at least one semester during our 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. office hours.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to organize time, set priorities, and work under pressure while paying attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Creative, easy to get along with, hard working, interest in taking on a variety of tasks.
  • Commitment to the goals and philosophies of GENaustin.
