clubGEN Intern
Location: Various Middle Schools in the Austin Independent School District
Summary of Position
The Girls Empowerment Network of Austin (GENaustin) seeks clubGEN Interns. The primary function of this role is to provide on-site supervision for clubGEN participants and facilitators. clubGEN is a weekly, after-school, peer mentoring program that trains high school girls (facilitators) to be peer mentors for middle school girls (participants), engaging them in activities throughout the school year that promote self-esteem, resilience, confidence, and leadership. Additionally, interns will coach and empower the high school facilitators as they develop valuable teamwork and leadership skills and will be an added support to the peer-led model. This mentor relationship will be influential to the high school girls as they learn to assess their individual values, relationships, and goals in relation to building a strong team of empowered young women.
Entrance Requirements

Ability to volunteer between the hours of 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on at least two days per week, Monday through Thursday. Interns can choose which days will best suit their needs. Additional hours are flexible in the office and at special events.
- Ability to volunteer for a total of 30 weeks between September 1, 07 and May 10, 08.
- Ability to attend two trainings that are scheduled for August 22nd and 23rd. .
- Access to email for regular updates about programs, time changes, and curriculum activities.
- Reliable transportation.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Commitment to the goals and philosophies of GENaustin.

Communications Intern
Location: Ann Richard School
Summary of Position
The Girls Empowerment Network of Austin (GENaustin) seeks a
Community Relations intern to collaborate with the Resource
Development and Public Relations personnel. As a fully integrated
member of GENaustin, an intern will be given the opportunity
to: - produce outreach materials such as a brochure
- research
-
press release writing
- outreach to local media outlets
- newsletter
| - write success stories
- photography
-
edit video content for our website
- and assist with other PR
related tasks.

In addition to the everyday workload, efforts
are made towards educating interns about the organization as
a whole through meetings, events, and other opportunities.
Entrance Requirements
- Preferably undergraduate or graduate students with a major
related to public relations, journalism, information technology
or communications.
- Excellent research, writing, and oral communications skills.
- Available to work on a committed weekly schedule, preferably
part time (minimum 10 hours/week for at least three months)
during our 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. office hours.
- Reliable transportation.
- Ability to organize time, set priorities, and work under
pressure while paying attention to detail.
- Strong computer skills.
- Good disposition, hard working, creative, with an interest
in taking on a variety of tasks.
- Commitment to the goals and philosophies of GENaustin.
