Postcard from campGEN - Saturday, August 26th

Hi Mom:

I’m SO glad I decided to come to campGEN! It was a lot of fun to meet the adult sponsors I will be working with and to bond with my group of facilitators - although I kinda recognized some of them from school, they are all supernice and I look forward to working with them….our sponsor is helping us organize a night to get to know each other more and have ice cream. If there is ice cream, I’m there!

Oh, so back to camp life….

First, we learned the basics of how clubGEN works, and did a pretty cool activity to learn more about how we will be a “web” of support for our middle school mentees. I can’t wait to meet my Lil Sis!

Then we went with the other facilitators and our sponsors to learn about working as a team, girl empowerment, how to run clubGEN meetings, and how to start the year off right. The counselors were really enthusiastic and so it made me really excited about what I’ll be doing this year in club! We finished up by doing this funny thing called Pass the Bump, which is hard to explain, but basically you hit the person’s hip with your hip in a big circle and it leads to a lot of laughs and kinda ends in a group hug.

I really wish I had a program like clubGEN when I was in middle school. I can’t wait to help girls deal with the tough stuff that happens during those years and to help them make good choices.

OK, I gotta run - now we have to get a plan for getting middle school girls to sign up for club!

Miss you!

GENny
