AUSTIN,
TX (October 2, 2007) � Every day after the last school bell rings,
approximately 250 AISD middle school girls stay to participate in the clubGEN
after school program. Totaling at nearly 1,000 girls, this is an increase of
400% for The Girls� Empowerment Network of Austin. GENaustin is announcing its expansion and more impactful role to the
community with an Open House.
GENaustin
invites parents, girls, and active leaders to attend
at its new headquarters, located at the Ann Richards School for Young Women
Leaders, on Tuesday, October 23 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The evening includes a free workshop
about responding to bullying behavior, �Mean Girls: Survival Strategies for
Bullying, Gossip, and Other Hazards of Being a Middle School Girl,� at 6:00 p.m.
clubGEN is a weekly after-school program
employing high school girls to be peer mentors for middle school girls. clubGEN
provides a safe space on school campuses for middle school aged girls to learn
about peer pressure, body image, bullying, critical thinking skills and other
issues adolescent girls face today� and high school aged girls gain leadership
experience and workforce development. By hiring high school juniors and
seniors, GENaustin imbues a sense of earning power and employment potential in
young women.
