OriGENal Works is a workforce development program for high school girls
which provides 32 weeks of training & employment for up to 40 economically disadvantaged
AISD students. Our goals are that all girls will:
- learn about careers related to their interests,
- will develop skills & attitudes needed for work,
- will experience work-based learning & paid work,
- will be able to earn money for, & the desire to attain, higher education &/or
career training, &
- will learn how to be self-sufficient & self-reliant.
Specific components of the program include:
- leadership, teamwork, public speaking, & group facilitation skills;
- financial literacy skills (budgeting, planning, savings, opening & managing a
bank account);
- career research & planning, goal setting, & job search skills; & /li>
- soft employment skills (timeliness, appearance, professional behavior,
etc.).
