This talk explores the Legal and social consequences of underage drinking and includes the use of “Fatal Vision Goggles” which simulate impairment under the influence of alcohol. Presented by the Travis County Underage Drinking Prevention and Education Program.

Papis and Their Daughters: Growing the Bond (Spanish/English bilingual presentation)
Whether he is called daddy or papi, fathers are the most important role model for girls. They are the template girls use to choose friends, goals and sometimes who they date later on. Research shows a father’s validation and support has tremendous impact on girls’ confidence and choices. Community activist and stay-at-home dad Juan Valadez will lead a talk about the value of fathers building strong bonds with daughters.

Do you ever wish that you felt better about yourself? Or felt more confident about your strengths? Learn how to feel better about yourself and your unique strengths. Social worker, Barb Steinberg, LMSW, will focus on exploring your worth and deciding how great you are!

Meet women from a variety of careers to learn about jobs that could best suit you. Come hear thoughts, advice and challenges from women who “made-it” in their chosen field. This session introduces girls to a vast range of potential job pathways.

Protect Yourself
In the first part of this personal safety workshop, you will learn general dating safety tips, develop safety instincts and plan safety strategies. In the second part, you will learn simple techniques for physical resistance and other tips for general safety. Led by Joy Williamson from Every- woman’s Self-Defense.

Girl Talk: Communicate and Earn Respect
Based on SafePlace’s “Expect Respect” school program, this presentation will address the promotion of safe and healthy relationships for all girls. A strong girl speaks her mind in a relationship, refuses to do things that make her uncomfortable, and expects people to treat her with respect - even when others might be angry or disappointed. The program’s focus will be on helping girls communicate their feelings, increasing girls’ sense of personal safety and building healthy coping skills. A SafePlace represenative will facilitate this discussion.
