For many people, meeting society's ideal body image has become more important than being healthy. Society's top solutions appear
to be "a diet" or surgery. But there are ways to change your body image without doing damage to your body! Judy Reyes will discuss
how learning to love your physical appearance can positively affect self-acceptance, self-esteem and physical health.

Wednesday, March 9: Relationships and Healthy Choices |

Audience: For girls
Based on SafePlace's "Expect Respect" school program, the presentation will address the promotion of safe and healthy relationships
for all girls. A strong girl speaks her mind in a relationship, refuses to do things that make her uncomfortable, and expects people to treat her with respect
even when they are angry or disappointed. The focus will be helping girls communicate their feelings, increase their sense of personal safety,
and build healthy coping skills. This presentation will be conducted by the SafePlace School-based education and training team. |
Thursday, March 24: Taking Work to Our Daughters |

Audience: For girls
Take Our Daughters to Work Day has given countless young girls the opportunity to learn about professions of interest by
shadowing their parents or other adults at work. Sometimes it's not possible to take our girls to work - so we are taking
work to the girls! Join this panel discussion of women from a variety of exciting careers as they talk about how girls can follow
in their footsteps. |
Wednesday, March 30: Engineering and High Tech Careers: From Dreams to Reality |

Time: 12 p.m.(noon)
Audience: For girls & parents
Join young Austin women who’ve “made it” in the high-tech and engineering fields for
a look at the relationship between self-confidence and math and science, and how experiences in middle school can make or break career opportunities for
girls. Speakers will help de-mystify these fields and offer advice about what parents and educators can do to encourage girls in math and science. The panel will be
facilitated by Donna Van Fleet, GENaustin's Board Chair and a former IBM top executive. |
