AUSTIN, Texas, August 15, 2001 -- Ophelia has changed names to GENaustin and added a new logo to our look!! We feel that our new name, GEN -- Girls Empowerment Network -- Austin, and logo better fit our mission of serving Austin-area girls. GENaustin is the only local organization that focuses exclusively on strengthening the self-esteem and emotional well being of all adolescent girls- regardless of their career plans, hobbies, or socioeconomic status. GENaustin works with other local organizations to foster the emotional well-being of adolescent girls as they are affected by the local community and American culture.

Austin girls helped create the new logo and are responding favorably to GENaustin's new look. "I love the (GENaustin) character, she's young and energetic and positive," noted Laura Panella, age 18. Another GENaustin supporter, Lynda Dawson, aged 16, said, "This is a wonderful network and it is so nice to know that there are supportive programs for young girls out there. I think this is an effective logo. The (GENaustin) girl's arm seems to portray a feeling of power, like she can reach the stars!"
