Girl Talk Workshops

Bring Girl Talk Workshops to your school or organization

Through Girl Talk Workshops, we explore the issues of Body Image, Bullying, and Being a Girl with topics such bullying, dating, diversity, media literacy, parent-daughter relationships and physical health. The Girl Talk Workshops are offered to schools and community groups year-round. These sessions are designed for 5th-12th grade girls, parents, and educators. Sessions are led by nationally and locally recognized experts through a format of group presentations and hands-on interactive sessions that are designed to identify the problems and offer solutions to the complex issues girls face today.

During interactive presentations or panel discussions, girls have the opportunity to educate themselves and ask candid questions from professionals and role models. For over 15 years now, GENaustin has provided a safe, girl-only environment, where girls can discuss their concerns about topics that are sometimes too difficult to talk about with family and friends.

In the 2009-2010 school year, Girl Talk Workshops have impacted over 1,000 girls in many central Texas school districts and community organizations, with future plans to expand throughout the state of Texas. Parent workshops (and parent/daughter workshops) are also now available.

This years’ topics include:

  • Relationships (friendships, dating, parents, communication, dating violence)
  • Leadership/diversity
  • Self-esteem building/media literacy/body image
  • Health/sexuality
  • College and career planning (stress management, goal setting, etiquette)

Girl Talk Workshops can accommodate groups of 10-50 girls. Each workshop is approximately 45-60 minutes, but can be modified to fit your needs. Workshops are a great tool for school classes, community groups, and parents. Through workshops, we strive to increase community awareness of the needs of adolescent girls and forge alliances with other organizations to help girls.

Love Yourself Workshop at Wooldridge Elementary

The girls were presented information on body image and what it means to have a healthy image of yourself inside and out. While the girls enjoyed healthy snacks, they participated in a question and answer with female mentors who serve in their community. GENaustin’s Workshops are being scheduled throughout the school year in eight central Texas Independent School Districts. If interested in having GENaustin come to your campus please contact: Jasmine Castleberry, GENaustin Workshop Coordinator, at 512.414.4046 or by email at
